A tribute to Michael Jackson

So on a day when everyone appears to be making terrible and tasteless jokes about Michael Jackson, I wanted to post a video of one of his songs which is still high on my list of all time favourites. Please enjoy Earth Song.

A eulogy for IE6

I couldn’t decide if this was more suited to the sensible or the new fun side of slightlymore, but in the end have decided that it’s probably going to find more friends in the light relief section. We all love to hate IE6, it’s way past it’s death-by-date, but it’s unfortunately still lingering around like a particularly bad smell. Luckily, with the birth of IE8, the stench of 6 might soon pass, and Paul Boag has recorded an absolutely genius Eulogy for IE6 on audioboo – you’ll likey!

House out-takes

We all love the TV series House. We all love out-takes. If you don’t, you’re probably either lying or boring. Hugh Laurie is, let’s face it, a bit of a legend, and these clips confirm the diagnosis. So sit back and enjoy a small portion of outtakes from the TV series House.

Announcement: New section on the site

If you’ve been keeping up with the posts on slightlymore, you might have guessed that there was a new section appearing on the site. It has now been born, and is called light relief. It’s intended to be a place where I can put the every day bits and pieces which I find and would like to post for the rest of the world to see.

Snatch Wars (Snatch Vs Star Wars)

Again, just filler material really to flesh out the new light relief section. Although it is still rather good. This time, enjoy the sounds Darth Vader speaking words from Snatch.

Announcement: RSS reshuffle! Are you subscribed to the correct feed?

I’m currently giving slightlymore a bit of a restructure and have decided to split up the feeds into more sensible chunks. I now offer four feeds for your pleasure: Everything, Just the blog posts, Just the links and Just the light relief.

What happens when you mix Batman with Pulp Fiction

This is a quick tester really for the new light relief section. It’s not the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my life – but it’s a good start! It is the dialogue of Pulp Fiction along with 1960′s Batman footage.

What is a browser?

Google went to Times Square in New York and posed (what we believe to be) a simple question – What is a browser? The answers were quite interesting – some people had no clue; others were painfully close, it just seemed like they didn’t have the right words to explain what they meant. Either way, it’s an interesting watch, and goes to show that what we take for granted isn’t always common knowledge.

What does the += operator do?

It sets the value on the left to be itself plus the value on the right (for example, i+=3 is the same as i = i+3). It’s called the addition-assignment operator.

2 Javascript lectures you need to watch

I can’t believe that I’m actually building one of those ‘XXX things you XXX about XXX’ lists, but I am. Although I’m letting myself off because this is not just (what I consider to be) filler material, but some links to some lectures which have genuinely improved my understanding and use of Javascript.

Me on the intertubes

It wouldn't be right to have a web site, be a nerd, and not take this opportunity for a bit of shameless pluggery.

If you like all these weird and magic internet page things, you should try Coaster Nerd, Oxford Bloggers or, if you'd really like some unexplainable sourcery, is it the weekend yet.

Also you should follow me on Twitter ;)

Where to find me

I can be found fairly regularly at Oxford Geek Nights, OxTuttle and other general nerding out activities in and around Oxford.

I am also often found in my natural habitat which is anywhere that you can find an adreneline machine. I frequent English theme parks more often than is healthy, and take trips abroad to sample foreign rides.

From the aviary

Was having a decidedly crap day of development. Just got much better. It's nice when things go your way. #win 1 day ago

Comedy disclaimer

These posts were written at the time of writing and may not still be accurate or reflect my opinions any more. In fact, they may not even be correct or representative at the time of writing. You see, when I write, I just write. I don't do that thing which they always told you to do at school and plan what you want to write first. Because of this, there will almost certainly be a load of typos, grammar errors and incorrect facts and references. If this makes you feel queasy, I apologise that you had to get to the bottom of the page to read this, and hope that some day, you'll learn to forgive me.

What's this site?

Slightlymore started off all too formally for my liking. In the depths of the archives, you'll find tutorials. However if you read the more recent posts, you'll find them a lot more playful and about fun and interesting stuff.
