Nerds can simply never have enough websites. I am, it seems one of those nerds. My new website will contain short code and programming philosophy snippets.
The place that’s halfway between blogging and microblogging
140 characters can often be too short. A blog post can often be too long. Have a genius idea that fills up the space somewhere in the middle of those two? Posterous might be for you. It’s definitely for me.
Diary of things
I’ll just tell you – you probably already know anyway. I’m a lazy blogger. I don’t seem to have time to write as many articles as I’d like for slightlymore. I know what the problem is – I don’t write enough because I have this strange inability to put small or waffley articles on it – I’d rather that it stayed as a blog devoted to development and internet related things. My new site diaryofthings.com will give me an outlet for mindless wifflings, allowing me to write more relevant content for slightlymore.
oxfordbloggers.com
It was around 9 or 10 in the evening in the Jam Factory. After a very successful Ox Tuttle, Ben Walker (@ihatemornings), Colin Mercer (@colinmercer) and myself came up with one of those genius drunken ideas. oxfordbloggers.com is it.
Defenders in tights
I’ve just stumbled across a fine advert for Google’s Chrome browser. I’ve never seen any ads for it before other than text links suggesting that you might possibly at some point maybe want to try a different browser. I hope that you enjoy the Defenders in tights ad as much as I did.
Don’t leave post slugs as the default
This post is mainly aimed towards Wordpress, Textpattern and (probably) a multitude of other CMS driven website users. ‘Smart’ web software will automatically create a ‘slug’ for your new article, but it’s not always best to trust the CMS to come up with the best URL for you.
Useful glossaries for web designers and developers
Another glossary I’m afraid, but you can never have too many of them. This one on Smashing Magazine covers everything from typography to marketing, CSS to print design and Twitter to even higher level things such as software development. There are loads of links to all over the intertubes, so if you’ve got a spare moment, head over to this article and get reading!
Audioboo – making ‘podcasting’ accessible to everyone
So I’ve just found the new service AudioBoo, which I think may well turn out to be the next twitter. It allows anyone (well, anyone with an iPhone, at the moment) to record 3 minute clips of audio to be hosted by AudioBoo. You can follow people, tag your Boos – or at least that’s what I think they’re called – set a location for each one and allow people to comment on them.
